Drivers are being asked to check their vehicles on a regular basis, following a St Saviour road check on Tuesday 31 May 2011.
220 vehicles passed through the check, during which:
- 10 drivers were advised to fix defective brake lights
- 2 vehicles were impounded
- 9 drivers were issued with defect notices
- 5 drivers were required to produce their driving documents at St Saviour Parish Hall
The road check, which took place between 7.30am and 9am on Mont Millais, near Jersey College for Girls, involved officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS) and the honorary police of St Saviour.
Director of Transport, Tristen Dodd commented: "The majority of vehicles passing through this morning's check were in good condition. It is concerning that the two vehicles impounded had fairly elementary defects that should have been spotted by the driver and additionally, nearly five percent of the vehicles passing through the check had defective stop lamps. I think this illustrates the importance of checking your vehicle on a regular basis."
