Anne Milton MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health, has confirmed 'in principle' support for the reintroduction of a health agreement between the UK and Jersey.
The details of the agreement and the date of introduction have yet to be confirmed but it is envisaged that the Jersey agreement will reflect that recently signed between the Isle of Man and the UK.
Deputy Anne Pryke, Minister of Health and Social Services, said “I am delighted that we have 'in principle' support from the Department of Health. The withdrawal of the previous reciprocal health agreement in April 2009 put both UK citizens and Islanders at a real disadvantage when they travelled between the 2 jurisdictions.
"A new agreement will provide peace of mind for Islanders taken ill in the UK and for UK citizens who are visiting Jersey.
“The details of the agreement have yet to be finalised but I am confident that we are now very close to resolving this matter."
