Islanders are being reminded to check with their airline before travelling this Christmas if they are unsure about what they are allowed to take onboard the flight.
Jersey Airport is reminding passengers to pay special attention to what seasonal goods they are permitted to carry so as to avoid the disappointment of items being refused carriage at security.
Wrapped presents must be carried in checked-in hold luggage and presents that are being carried in hand luggage should remain unwrapped. Liquid items such as perfumes, pastes, gels, jams, preserves, dairy products and lotions should also be carried in checked-in luggage unless they are in a container of less than 100ml, in which case they can be placed in a clear re-sealable bag and carried as hand-luggage.
Jersey Airport’s Terminal and Security Manager, Steve Read, said "It is perfectly understandable at this time of the year that people are travelling with a higher than usual number of presents and we want them to have as smooth a journey as possible. Strict security measurements remain in place, which all airports must adhere to, even at this time of the year. However, we hope that by giving travellers a polite reminder of what they are permitted to carry onboard we will decrease the risk they take of having items denied boarding at security search."
Passengers are also being reminded that Christmas crackers are not permitted to be carried in hand luggage, although airlines will accept them if they are in checked-in hold luggage; have been factory produced; are in the unopened box and are limited in quantity. Party poppers or other types of explosive device are not allowed in the cabin or the hold.
