A fire broke out in a bedsit in the Cheapside area of St Helier on Saturday (16 July) after a cooker had been left unattended.
The occupier returned home to a smoke-filled room and alerted the fire service.
2 firefighters tackled the fire and the flat was made safe by turning off the electricity to the building.
The bedsit was not fitted with a smoke alarm and the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service is reminding Islanders of the importance of having a working smoke alarm.
The incident happened just after 11am. The exact cause of the fire is still being investigated.
