Deadline for primary school admissions

30 November 2011

Parents of children who are due to start reception class in September 2012 need to contact their primary school by Friday 9 December to confirm their application if they want a place in a States school.

Parents can find out their catchment school by contacting the Education, Sport and Culture department, their parish hall or by looking at the map available on the States of Jersey website. They can also contact their local primary to confirm they are within the catchment area.

Parents may request up to 3 schools in order of preference. If a school is oversubscribed priority will be given to families who:

  • already have older children at the school
  • live in the catchment area
  • live near the catchment area school

If applications are received after the 9 December deadline, the first choice of school may no longer be available. If the school is already full, every effort will be made to offer a place at the parents’ second preference.

Primary schools will write to all parents in March 2012 to offer places. Parents are asked to inform the school if, at any time, they no longer need the place they have been offered.

To avoid duplication, parents will not be offered a place in a States primary if they accept a place in a fee-paying school.
