A new corporate printing contract has been agreed for the States of Jersey, which will centralise the provision of equipment, halve the number of printers, scanners and fax machines across the organisation and reduce the cost of their maintenance.
It will also see the introduction of clear policies on double-sided and colour printing and a reduction in the amount of ink, paper and power used.
The process of moving from a departmental to a centrally controlled system has involved a comprehensive survey of all departments’ use of print equipment. This has taken time to analyse but the project is now complete and Danwood Jersey has been selected as the new provider.
The new multi-purpose printers will eliminate the need for individual fax machines, photocopiers, scanners and desktop printers, as these functions can be combined in one unit. Having one print provider will reduce the time required for managing multiple contracts and performance monitoring will be easier to undertake.
The Procurement Department will monitor and pay the costs of the contract centrally and recharge departments for the service. The contract will be in place for up to 7 years and Procurement will work with existing print suppliers to manage remaining lease arrangements.
The Assistant Minister for Treasury and Resources, Connétable John Refault, who has responsibility for Procurement, said “We anticipate that the new contract will save at least £240,000 per annum. The reduction in operating costs will be removed from budgets as the new printing arrangements are implemented in each department.”
The Treasury & Resources Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, said, “I am pleased this project has reached completion after many months of meticulous work by the procurement team. This is the kind of large scale change to the way we buy goods and services that I want to see across all areas of the public sector.
“The more we can identify these kinds of corporate savings as part of the Comprehensive Spending Review, the less of an impact our savings programme will have on front line services.
