The political steering group formed by Treasury and Resources Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, to oversee the delivery of a new Police headquarters held its second meeting on Thursday (29 September 2011).
The group is continuing to consider a number of States-owned locations and has agreed that the project team should now focus its principal efforts on a States-owned site at Green Street.
The Chair of the group, Connétable John Refault, said: "Working closely with the Police and specialists in the field of police buildings, the project team has reviewed all the options now available and has identified a site at Green Street, which is already owned by the States and which could meet all the Police requirements within the available budget.
We are now conducting a detailed feasibility study of this area. This is necessary to prove that this location not only meets the operational requirements of the Police, but will also address key Planning requirements and other development considerations. I can offer my assurance that we are working hard to secure a new home for our valued Police Force.
We remain confident that this current preferred option can meet all the Police requirements within the allocated budget."
The group is committed to moving this project forward as fast as possible; however, it is essential that a feasibility study is completed before continuing to the next stage. It is expected that this work will be completed by the end of November.
The group will next meet in mid-October to review progress.
