International and national speakers are coming to Jersey this week to speak about wound care management at a conference which will take place on 9 and 10 June at the Jersey Rugby Club.
100 delegates including nurses, doctors and allied health care professionals are expected to attend.
The conference has been organised by Sister Di Rolland, clinical nurse specialist from the dermatology department at Jersey General Hospital and Sister Gilly Glendewar, tissue viability nurse specialist at Family Nursing and Home Care.
Di Rolland said “We are very pleased to have this conference in Jersey. It will cover knowledge, research, evidence based practice and practical applications used in wound care." Subject areas include -
- burns
- latest theories relating to wound infection
- debridement of lower limb wounds
- cavity management
- wound assessment
- use of larval therapy (maggots)
A similar conference was held in Jersey in 2009 which stimulated a huge amount of interest in the subject area, hence the venture being repeated this year.
Gilly Glendewar added “We are very grateful to the wound care companies sponsoring the event and who will be present at the conference to discuss the many wound care products and devices available to clinicians.
“This type of event is essential to maintain the knowledge and skills of clinicians, especially as it is not always easy or cost effective to have large numbers of staff leaving the Island to access this information. Seeing and hearing about new technology, research and case studies will facilitate clinicians to enhance their practice.”
