Fund raising at Jersey Airport

23 November 2012

Staff at Jersey Airport are planning a range of activities to raise money for nine charities which have been selected to benefit as part of the airport’s 75th anniversary. Activities will include school choir performances in the terminals, dress-down days, cake sales and a public raffle.

The charities, all of which have a Jersey connection, were chosen by Ports staff earlier this year. Each represents a different decade, determined by the year it was first established in the Island, from the 1930s to the present day, complementing the nine decades the airport has been operating.

Raffle prizes

This year's public raffle features 26 prizes, from hotel vouchers and restaurant meals to gym membership, hire car rental and air tickets. The star prize, donated in recognition of Jersey Airport’s 75th anniversary, is two return, long-haul air tickets courtesy of British Airways.

Raffle tickets, priced at £1 each, are on sale from the information desk at Jersey Airport, and the raffle will be drawn on Friday 14 December 2012.

Group Marketing & Communications Manager for Ports of Jersey, Alan Donald, says ‘We have always lent our support to the fund-raising efforts of many organisations as part of our commitment to the local community. This is the 13th consecutive year that staff have organised fund-raising activities to support local charities.

"As 2012 is a special year for us, we wanted as many charities as possible to benefit from our efforts. We are particularly grateful for the generosity of our raffle prize contributors, especially British Airways and our other partner airlines. Looking at the prizes on offer I think this year’s raffle will be very popular with the public."

Collection boxes

A number of charity collection boxes have been installed at the airport and the money from these boxes, together with any funds raised over the festive period, will be counted up in February 2013 and divided equally among the nine charities.

The chosen charities represent a wide selection of causes:

  • Brig-Y-Don Children’s Home (established in 1939)
  • Good Companions Club (1948)
  • Durrell (1959)
  • Meals on Wheels (1962)
  • CLIC Sargent Cancer Care for Children (1974)
  • Jersey Hospice Care (1982)
  • Motor Neurone Disease Association (1992)
  • Autism Jersey (2005)
  • Jersey Alzheimers Association (2010)
