Jersey Fire and Rescue have congratulated staff of a St Helier hostel for their emergency evacuation procedures.
Lewis Street was closed off yesterday afternoon so the Fire Service could tackle a blaze at the homeless hostel. Fire crew wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using a high pressure hosereel and positive pressure ventilation.
There was minor damage to a bedroom but a search of the building found that no one needed hospital treatment. The Fire Service put this outcome down to good fire procedures and a prompt evacuation of the building by staff.
The incident is under investigation by the police.
