Jubilee film launched

A short 3D film entitled ‘Jersey: Royal Island’ is officially launched today (1 May 2012) as part of a series of events to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The film features footage from Jersey’s past, the creation of the portrait ‘Equanimity’ by artist Chris Levine and holographer Rob Munday, and the production of the £100 commemorative note. It also provides a detailed snapshot of the Island’s history, relationship to the Crown, scenery and key industries.

Produced by Jersey-based company, Colonial Pictures, the 15-minute film will be screened at a reception at Jersey Museum, hosted by the Economic Development Minister, Senator Alan Maclean.

Islanders can see the film at the Jersey Museum over the coming months and will be available to view on the States of Jersey YouTube channel on 2 May 2012. The film will also be used by promotional bodies to attract businesses to the Island. An edited version of the film will be shown at Jersey’s airport and harbour, and other key tourism locations around the Island. 

Senator Alan Maclean commented “The Diamond Jubilee is a unique opportunity for us to showcase Jersey. Our long-standing allegiance to the Crown truly makes Jersey a ‘royal island’. This film demonstrates Jersey’s past and present in a positive and compelling light, using the medium of 3D. It will be used internationally as a tool for developing business and showing the attractions and many benefits of our Island."

The Treasury and Resources Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, added “This important film will complement the launch of the Jersey £100 note and stamp, while also supporting the international promotional work which is vital to our economic interests."

Philip Hewat-Jaboor FSA, the Jersey based art advisor acting in an honorary capacity, and a driving force behind this, added:  “This short film forms part of an initiative I was asked to undertake to promote the Island during Diamond Jubilee year.

"We have a unique opportunity to promote the image of the Island and demonstrate Jersey’s integrity and historic allegiance to the Crown, through the splendid portraits of Her Majesty commissioned in 2004 from the artist Chris Levine and holographer Rob Munday."
