Sarah Hague, the current deputy head of Les Quennevais secondary school, will take over as head teacher from September 2013.
Mrs Hague (41) has worked at the school for 14 years and teaches GCSE law and religious studies. She will succeed John Thorp, who retires next summer after more than 14 years as head.
“I am absolutely thrilled and I feel it is an immense privilege to be given the opportunity to lead such an exceptional school. Les Quennevais School is a very special place and, having been part of it for 14 years, I am acutely aware of how much hard work from students and staff goes into making the school such a thriving and happy environment.
"I am extremely excited about the future of the school and I look forward to building on the success it has achieved under the dedicated guidance of Mr Thorp,” said Mrs Hague, who is originally from the UK and previously worked at Teddington School in London.
Julian Bernstein, the Chair of Les Quennevais Board of Governors, said “After a rigorous selection process, Sarah Hague won through against both national and local competition. We are very pleased to be able to make this appointment and I think it’s a testament to Mrs Hague’s professionalism that she was able to excel against such a strong field. We look forward to a positive future for Les Quennevais under her leadership.”
Education, Sport & Culture Minister Deputy Patrick Ryan added “Mrs Hague’s leadership qualities and her commitment to Les Quennevais are obvious. This is excellent news for the school and I would like to wish her well in her new role.”
Director of Education Mario Lundy said “Sarah Hague has a thorough knowledge of the school and its ethos and a strong desire to see it go from strength to strength in future. She will be an excellent successor to John Thorp and is in a strong position to build on the school’s successes. I would like to extend my congratulations to her and also to thank Mr Thorp for his contribution to Les Quennevais over such a long period.”
