The Employment Forum has released its annual minimum wage review asking the public for their views on what changes should be made to the minimum wage and the trainee rate.
Mrs Helen Ruelle, Chair of the Employment Forum, said “The minimum wage has increased each year since it was introduced in 2005. We want to hear what the public think about increasing the minimum wage in 2013 and 2014.
We are also reviewing the criteria that must be met to justify paying the trainee rate, including the types of certified and in-house training that permit an employer to pay the trainee rate and the maximum length of time that the trainee rate should be payable for.
We hope to get a good response from employers who pay the minimum wage and employees who are paid at, or around, the minimum wage.”
The views received, combined with data about the economy, will help the Forum to decide whether any changes should be recommended to the Social Security Minister. The Minister will consider whether to accept the Forum’s recommendation before proposing any necessary changes to the Law later in 2012.
The survey is available online, by email or from the Social Security Department reception desk. Responses must be received by 17 August 2012.
