An outbreak of Norovirus in Bartlett Ward at the General Hospital has been confirmed.
Don't visit the hospital if you have these symptoms
Anyone with a planned appointment at the hospital - but with symptoms such as diarrhoea (with or without nausea or vomiting), abdominal pain and / or fever - are asked not to visit and to ring and let the hospital know. This is to prevent Norovirus spreading and ensure that the infection is contained.
Other areas of the hospital apart from Bartlett Ward remain unaffected.
Bartlett Ward currently closed
Bartlett Ward at the General Hospital is still closed to admissions and visiting has been restricted. Several patients are still affected. Enhanced cleaning continues, and this will be done on a regular basis.
Staff movement has been restricted, and only essential staff have access to the affected ward.
Clinical management of the patients who are currently on Bartlett Ward will not be compromised while this Norovirus outbreak is being managed.
The situation is being reviewed by senior hospital managers on a daily basis.
Wash your hands to avoid the spread of infection
The single most effective way to prevent any probable spread of Norovirus is with thorough hand washing, using soap and water.
