Specialist cardiac nurses Lisa Anderson and Lee-Anne Penn, from Jersey’s General Hospital are one of nine teams to receive a prestigious national award from the British Heart Foundation (BHF), which was presented to them at a ceremony in Birmingham on 8 November.
The BHF Achievement Awards recognise staff and organisations funded or supported by the BHF that have shown excellence in heart healthcare.
The integrated care award is given to a team who has led, influenced and evaluated a model of integrated care to improve outcomes for heart patients which influences services for patients and carers; and ensures that patient outcomes are the focus of the services provided. Both Lisa, who is a cardiac rehabilitation nurse, and Lee-Anne, who is a cardiac specialist and heart failure nurse, provide support, information, rehabilitation and subsequent follow-up care and were delighted to have won the Integrated Care Award from the BHF.
Karen Sweeney, Head of Healthcare and Innovation at the BHF said "Lisa and Lee-Anne are both brilliant examples of the calibre of healthcare professionals we fund and support to treat and care for heart patients, or prevent people developing heart disease in the first place. The letters we receive from patients tell us time and again that our healthcare professionals offer a vital service not only for them but for their families too. These awards are a way of recognising and thanking them for the fantastic work they do and the many lives they touch."
Dr Andrew Mitchell, cardiologist at the General Hospital, said "Both Lee Anne and Lisa do amazing work with cardiac patients both before and after treatment in Jersey, and other cardiac centres, to have their work recognised at a national level is a credit to both of them. This is an amazing achievement bearing in mind there were about 900 health professionals up for awards. I am so pleased they have had this important national recognition for their hard work and achievements."
Speaking about the award, Lisa said "I would like to congratulate everyone involved within the cardiology team especially Louise Woodland, our cardiac physiotherapist, Angela Moss, our arrhythmia nurse specialist and all who work tirelessly to improve patient care their effort makes this award all the more special. We really enjoy our roles and feel so privileged. Collectively, we support, change and make a positive difference to heart health in Jersey. Receiving this award in recognition of our achievements is very uplifting especially as we recognise there is so much more we would like to do."
The BHF funds and supports more than 800 healthcare professionals across the British Isles, who see more than 170,000 patients a year and help 10,000 people avoid distressing hospital stays.
