The Fire and Rescue Service will be supporting Jersey Electricity’s annual electric blanket safety test at the Western Fire Station, St Brelade, on 17 and 18 October 2012.
The free tests are part of a joint drive by the Fire and Rescue Service and Jersey Electricity (JE) to reduce the risk of fires caused by electrical fault.
Anyone who has an electric blanket is invited to take advantage of a free safety test by JE’s electrical engineers to ensure it is in a safe condition to use. If you are interested in participating, take your electric blanket to the Western Fire Station between 9am and 3pm on 17 or 18 October. JE staff will take your details and if the blanket can’t be tested on the spot while you wait, you will be given a time for collection later in the day.
If your blanket fails the safety test, JE will keep it and dispose of it. You will receive a 10% discount voucher for purchase of a new blanket at JE's Powerhouse store.
The Fire and Rescue Service recommend that any electric blanket that is more than 10 years old should be replaced. For this reason, JE staff will not be accepting any blankets that are more than 10 years old. However, these blankets can be exchanged for a 10% discount voucher for purchase of a new blanket at Powerhouse.
A Community Fire Safety Officer will be on hand throughout the testing periods to offer advice on fire safety in the home.
