Following the discovery of a youth clinging to rocks in the early hours of Monday morning the Fire and Rescue Service is calling on Islanders to exercise greater awareness of their surroundings, and the importance of staying in contact with others, when out and about in remote locations.
The Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a local a spear fisherman who had discovered a youth clinging to rocks near La Pulente headland. After swimming back to shore the fisherman called the emergency services. The Fire and Rescue service was despatched to La Pulente. On arrival they liaised with the caller and launched their inshore rescue boat immediately. It was found that a youth had fallen from the headland after being out at a late night party.
Crew Manager Ryan, who praised the fisherman for raising the alarm, said "the youth had sustained serious injuries and we were able to render emergency first aid on the scene before transporting him ashore and handing over the casualty to waiting paramedics."
