Free energy saving advice event

22 October 2012

People in Jersey are being encouraged to find out more about saving energy and reducing winter fuel bills at a free event being held at St Paul’s Centre in St Helier on Friday 26 October.

The “Energy Surgery”, which is being organised by the Energy Efficiency Service and the Citizen’s Advice Bureau as part of Big Energy Saving Week, will offer free, independent advice about how to save energy in the home. Representatives from the Jersey Electicity Company, Channel Island Fuels and Fuel Supplies will also be available to offer customer specific advice.

The Chair of the Jersey Energy Trust Board, Sir Nigel Broomfield, said "The Energy Efficiency Service has seen an increased demand from Islanders for tailored, independent advice on how they can conserve energy at home, with the aim of reducing their bills and saving the environment from some carbon emissions. The Energy Efficiency Service team is delighted to introduce this new event as part of this year's national Big Energy Saving Week."

Citizen's Advice Bureau chief executive, Malcolm Ferey, has worked alongside the Energy Efficiency Service to arrange the event. He said: "In the current economic climate, with energy prices on the rise, we were eager to collaborate on an event designed specifically to help islanders save money on their energy bills. I would strongly encourage anyone concerned about rising energy bills to come along."

Planning and Environment Minister, Deputy Rob Duhamel, said: “The Energy Surgery will provide Islanders with practical advice on how to reduce their energy use. It also supports our aim of reducing the Island’s overall energy consumption."

The Energy Surgery will be open between 10am and 3pm and is free of charge. All members of the public are invited to come along with no appointment necessary. Tea and coffee will be available.
