The ministerial teams from Health and Social Services in Jersey and Guernsey and their chief officers held a joint meeting in Guernsey yesterday (Tuesday 30 October).
Deputy Anne Pryke, her Assistant Ministers Judy Martin and John Refault and CEO Julie Garbutt travelled to Guernsey to discuss future working together and joint updates in a number of areas, with Minister for Health and Social Services in Guernsey, Deputy Hunter Adam and Guernsey CEO Mark Cooke.
The Jersey delegation provided an update to their Guernsey counterparts on the reform of Health and Social Services, following the acceptance of the proposition by the States Assembly last week.
Other items on the agenda included an updates on joint working around revalidation and regulation of care as well as discussion about opportunities for joint working on electronic patient records, and future joint procurement opportunities for the two departments.
Speaking about the visit to Guernsey, Deputy Anne Pryke said "Although in some ways, Jersey and Guernsey are very different, and also have differing health and social care systems, it also makes sense to think about what we could do together. Now that the States Assembly in Jersey has supported the reform of health and social services in the future, it seemed an opportune time to update our Guernsey counterparts on what we need to do to make the reform happen in Jersey, and in turn, learn what they are doing in order to look at the challenges raised by having to care for an increasing older population."
Deputy Pryke added "In the future, we want to be as cost effective as possible, particularly with the ongoing CSR programme, and if there are any ways we can save money by looking at projects together, this would make sense. It was a very interesting and worthwhile day."
