Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache, will meet the French Government’s Europe Minister, M. Bernard Cazeneuve, in Paris today (7 November).
Senator Bailhache will be joined by Guernsey’s Chief Minister, Deputy Peter Harwood, at the meeting, which will take place at the French Foreign Ministry.
The meeting, which was organised by the Channel Islands Brussels Office, is part of an ongoing programme of engagement with the French Government.
Senator Bailhache commented “I am looking forward to meeting M. Cazeneuve. It is apt that I will be attending the meeting alongside the Chief Minister of our sister island, as both Jersey and Guernsey are committed to maintaining and developing positive relations with our French neighbours.
“This will be the first meeting that a Jersey minister has attended with one of President Hollande’s ministers. It is important that we establish a dialogue with the new French Government, and I will be emphasising during the meeting that we are keen to maintain that relationship in the coming years.
“There are a number of common areas of interest and mutual benefit between the Channel Islands and France, and I hope to be able to discuss these with M. Cazaneuve.”
