Eco-Active Business is launching a new training programme to help Island businesses reach an international standard in environmental management.
The training starts next week and will help companies address the environmental impact of their operations. It will be run by Global Action Plan, the UK’s leading environmental behaviour change charity, and is hosted by Eco-Active Business in partnership with the Jersey Chamber of Commerce’s Sustainable Business Forum.
International standard
The course is called ‘EMS Easy’ and will provide 11 local businesses with a smart, simple and flexible framework and toolkit to help them implement an Environmental Management System (EMS) that can be verifiable at international standard (ISO14001 or EMAS standard) and achieve Eco-Active Business Level three ‘Leader’ Status. If successful it will become an annual event.
Eco-Active's Programme Manager, Olivia Copsey, said that as well as helping companies improve their performance, the training should help them save money and stand out from the competition. “The aim of this training is to help more Jersey businesses move through our Eco-Active Business scheme by introducing a comprehensive system to manage environmental aspects including energy, waste, water, carbon and legislation.”

Chamber's Chairman of the Sustainable Business Forum, Jim Hopley, added ‘We are delighted at the number of member businesses that will be in attendance, demonstrating that Jersey businesses are committed to performing to International standard for environmental management.”
The Head of Facilities at Jersey Post, Martin Whitley, is attending the training next week. He says “At Jersey Post we try to manage our everyday operations in as sustainable a way as possible. This training will help us set targets to monitor and improve environmental performance in a focussed way. This will also help us make our business more efficient and demonstrate our good environmental standards to our customers.”
