The Minister for Transport and Technical Services has approved an increase in parking charges based on the Retail Price Index for last September of 3.9%. This means that a single unit paycard will increase from the current price of 69p to the new price of 71p.
The income from the Car Park Trading Fund pays for the repair, maintenance and rebuild of car parks as well as the monitoring of car parking regulation. This fund not only pays for the 6 multi-storey car parks in St Helier but also 81 other car parks across the Island, most of which provide free parking for at least half of the year.
Minister for Transport and Technical Services Deputy Kevin Lewis said “I realise that a price increase is never welcome but it is important that income keeps pace with inflation to maintain enough money to keep our car parks up to a reasonable standard. This is why we make an annual increase. Jersey parking charges still remain some of the least expensive in Britain.”
