A large fire destroyed a roof and upper floors of a derelict house in St Clement yesterday afternoon. Jersey Fire and Rescue teams tackled the blaze from the outside and briefly entered the property and to check that there was no one inside.
It took less than an hour for the flames to be brought under control but due to the location of the fire and the inability to reach the flames safely, most of the roof and first floor structure had been destroyed.
The Fire Service was stretched for resources during the incident as a second crew were assisting their sea rescue colleagues in a search. Backup crews from the Fire and Rescue Service Retained Section provided operational cover at Town Headquarters throughout this period.
