More than 100 yachts and 600 crew are expected to sail in the 6 day race which began in Saint-Vaast-La-Hougue on 15 July and takes in the ports of Cherbourg-Octeville, Port Dielette, Guernsey and Barneville-Carteret before finishing in Granville Friday 20 July.
The Tour of the Channel Ports is organised by the Yacht Club de Granville in partnership with the Conseil Général de La Manche and stage ports. For a week the competitors sail between France and the Channel Islands with Granville the last stop.
This regatta, a flagship event of the department of La Manche, is one of the biggest races in France and one of the major events in the sailing calendar.
Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache, who is welcoming representatives from the Conseil Général de La Manche on behalf of the Chief Minister, said “The race has developed into a high profile event that encourages racing yachtsmen and leisure sailors alike to visit the ports of the region. It also recognises the very close relationship we enjoy with our French neighbours and our shared maritime heritage.”
