The Treasury and Resources Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, has attended a meeting with the UK Chancellor, the Rt Hon George Osborne MP, in Tokyo today (11 October 2012).
Senator Ozouf is currently at the world’s largest gathering of finance ministers in the Japanese capital, where the Commonwealth, IMF and World Bank conferences are taking place.
The Senator discussed matters of mutual interest with the Chancellor during the meeting. Their discussions covered a range of topics, including Jersey’s value to the UK economy through the liquidity that it upstreams to the City of London.
Senator Ozouf commented “Among other meetings with IMF member country Finance Ministries, discussions with George Osborne were especially useful.
"During half an hour of wide ranging talks, the Chancellor and I covered topical issues including recent comments by the Deputy Prime Minster about the importance of Jersey as a liquidity centre to the UK; the importance of the UK and Jersey working together to secure economic growth and therefore jobs in the UK and Jersey; evolving international standards, and the recent IMF reports on the global economic outlook."
