The States of Jersey is inviting workplaces across the Island to take part in a fun, free competition to encourage more people to ride bikes.
AquaSplash, Consolidated Minerals Limited, Henley Offshore t/a, The Mortgage Shop and Henley Financial, UBS AG, and various States departments are among employers who are already signed up to participate in ‘Cycle Challenge Jersey’.
More than 30 businesses and 700 people are expected to take part in the Challenge which runs over three weeks from Monday 10 June to Sunday 30 June 2013. Unlike most cycling events, Cycle Challenge Jersey isn’t about speed or distance, but is all about encouraging people to simply hop on a bike so that they can experience the benefits of cycling first hand.
Cycle and win prizes
People can cycle anywhere they like, anytime they like over the three week period. The organisations that get the highest proportion of staff riding for just 10 minutes or more will win prizes.
Minister for Transport and Technical Services, Deputy Kevin Lewis, said “Increasing cycling is an important objective to making our travel more sustainable in Jersey. I am fully supportive of this initiative which has been very successful when run in towns in the UK. It has led to on-going increased numbers of people cycling on a regular basis.”
League tables online
During the Challenge there will be live league tables on the Cycle Challenge Jersey website showing the percentage participation of employers in six different size categories. The more staff from an organisation that hop on a bike, ride for just 10 minutes or more and then log their trip, the higher their team will climb up the rankings.
Participants who log trips during the Challenge will be in with a chance of winning some great prizes, including a brand new bike, cinema tickets and more.
Anyone interested in participating can sign up now. It’s free to register. When registered, organisations will receive a promotion pack to encourage staff participation. Anyone wanting to find out more can contact Ania Deichsel, Challenge Manager on tel +44 (0)1534 448293 or email
