Jersey Customs and Immigration Service has seized cannabis resin with a street value of more than £1.3 million in the last week.
On Friday 5 July almost 40 kilos of the drug was found concealed in a car that had arrived on the ferry from Poole. A 27 year old man has been charged with drug trafficking offences in connection with this seizure.
On Tuesday 9 July, after a long term operation that was unrelated to the first seizure, Customs and Immigration Officers found 72 kilos of cannabis resin in a commercial vehicle in St Lawrence. A 26 year old man has been charged with drug trafficking offences in connection with this seizure and enquiries are continuing.
The Director of Law Enforcement for Customs and Immigration, David Nurse, said ” It has been a busy few days for officers who have worked very hard to bring both of these operations to a successful conclusion.
"These are both significant quantities of cannabis. The seizures and subsequent arrests have seriously disrupted syndicates trying to import commercial quantities of drugs into the Island.”
