âOn Saturday 28 September Transport and Technical Services (TTS) are opening extra recycling points around the island for the collection of old and broken electrical goods. as an extra 6 collection points are open around the Island from 10am â 2pm.
The collection points will be open between 10 am and 2 pm and islannders can drop off household electrical itemss such as hairdryers, toasters and DVD players. The Recycle for Jersey Team recycling collection points are at:
- Les Creux County Park,
- St Ouen Parish Depot,
- St Peters Valley (next to the Victoria in the Valley car park),
- St Saviour Parish Depot (Rue des Pres Trading Estate),
- St Martin Public Hall Car Park
- Holme Grown, Grouville.
The following schools have also got involved with this campaign and set up their own recycling banks for electricals this week: St Georgeâs Preparatory School, St Saviourâs Primary School, St Lukeâs Primary School, Springfield Primary School, St Clementâs Primary School, Samares Primary School, Rouge Bouillon Primary School, La Moye Primary School, Mont Nicolle Primary School, Haute VallĂŠe Secondary School, Les Quennevais Secondary School, Grainville Secondary School and Le Rocquier Secondary School.
The first âelectricals amnestyâ was held last September and TTS received approximately 15 tonnes of household electricals from the four hour event.
Electrical items shouldnât be thrown away with household rubbish as they contain metals and potentially hazardous chemicals. As well as taking advantage of this Saturday's amnesty, islanders can take electrical items to the Household Recycling Centre (Gate 4 Bellozanne) which is open on Monday - Saturday between 7.30 am and 4.15pm and on Sundays from 8 am â 12.45 pm.
Recycling Manager, Emma Richardson-Calladine, said "Due to the success of last yearâs electricals amnesty we are holding the event again this year. Search your home for old and broken electricals and take advantage of the six additional collection points that are open this Saturday. It is so important that electrical goods arenât thrown away in the general rubbish and we hope that this event provides a reminder to act responsibly with your waste."
