Langtry Gardens development ahead of schedule

Work to build 48 new rental apartments for the Housing Department and 32 bungalows for the Parish of St Saviour has been underway at Langtry Gardens on St Saviour's Hill since March this year.

 

The homes, which will be delivered on budget, were due to be completed in October 2015 but work has been progressing at a swift pace and the current programme now indicates that the project may be completed as early as 39 weeks ahead of schedule.

 

Dandara is developing the site on land owned by the Housing Department, which is managing the delivery of the project and ensuring that the programme and quality of the work meets the expectations of prospective tenants.

 

The Housing Department has also taken on responsibility for managing the construction of the 32 Parish bungalows on the site and is establishing a very productive and long-term relationship with the Parish. 

 

The Housing Minister, Deputy Andrew Green, is assisting the Parish with the vetting of applicants for its Parish homes, a process that got underway this week. All of the homes will be occupied by people who qualify for affordable housing through the Housing Minister’s Affordable Housing Gateway and it is expected that shortlisting and allocation will take between four and six weeks.

 

Deputy Green said "We are very pleased to be working closely with the Parish of St Saviour on this project. Overall, the development will provide 80 new social rented homes, the importance of which cannot be underestimated."

 

St Saviour Connétable, Sadie Rennard, said "We are delighted to see the development of the new Parish bungalows getting underway so quickly and are very much looking forward to getting the homes occupied and seeing this new community develop."
