2013 boat show flag design chosen

18 April 2013

A flag designed by a ten-year old pupil at St Peter's School will fly in the arena of this year's Barclays Jersey Boat Show throughout the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Ten-year old Joshua Bond’s competition entry was chosen as the winning design for the official Barclays Jersey Boat Show flag.

Group Marketing and Communications Manager for Ports of Jersey, Alan Donald, said, "As always the judges had a difficult task in choosing just one winner from more than 70 imaginative entries received.

"However, after much consideration Joshua’s colourful design, which features a bright orange life ring and vivid green boat stood out from the others and is a worthy winner."

Opening ceremony

As part of his prize, Joshua will receive a gift voucher and a mini replica of his flag. In addition, he will also play an important role in the boat show’s opening ceremony on Saturday 4 May when he will help to hoist the flag along with other invited guests, including visiting yachtsman Geoff Holt MBE. St Peter’s School will also receive a prize voucher.

It is the third year boat show organisers have held a competition to find a winning flag design. Mr Donald said "On behalf of the Barclays Jersey Boat Show we would like to say a huge thank you to all entrants for their interest in the competition and for taking the time to design and submit their entries.

"The boat show is a true community event and the high number of entries received from local youngsters demonstrates the public’s continuing interest in the show."
