The President of the Regional Council of Lower Normandy, Mr Laurent Beauvais, and the President of the General Council of La Manche, Mr Jean-François Le Grand, will visit Jersey on Thursday 2 May 2013. They will be accompanied by Mr Beauvais’ Vice President, Mrs Annie Anne.
The purpose of the visit is to strengthen and develop existing relations between Jersey and Lower Normandy. This desire to continue to work closely together will be formalised on Thursday when the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, and President Beauvais will sign a letter of intent to develop a framework for exchanges and cooperation between Jersey and Lower Normandy.
Strengthening links
The delegation will also meet the Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache; the Treasury Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf; the Education, Sport and Culture Minister, Deputy Patrick Ryan; the Environment Minister, Deputy Rob Duhamel; the Lieutenant-Governor, HE General Sir John McColl; and the Bailiff, Sir Michael Birt.
Proposals for a marine park in the Bay of St Malo, renewable energy resources, and aspects of shared culture and heritage will be some of the issues under discussion.
Senator Gorst said “It is important that we continue to strengthen our relationships with our French neighbours, both at regional and national levels. By maintaining close working ties with our neighbouring regions and departments, we are addressing common issues and points of interest at a local level, while also reinforcing our relationship with the French Government as a whole.”
