31 January 2013
The cost of parking in Jersey is increasing in line with inflation from Friday 1 February 2013. A single unit paycard will rise from 71p to the new price of 73p.
The Minister for Transport and Technical Services has approved the increase in parking charges based on the Retail Price Index for last September of 3.1%.
The income from the Car Park Trading Fund pays for the repair, maintenance and rebuild of car parks as well as the monitoring of car parking regulation. It funds six multi-storey car parks in St Helier and 81 other car parks across the Island, most of which provide free parking for at least half of the year.
Minister for Transport and Technical Services, Deputy Kevin Lewis said: “Of course a price increase is never welcomed. We make an annual increase to ensure that income keeps pace with inflation so that there’s enough money to keep our car parks up to a reasonable standard. Jersey parking charges still remain some of the least expensive in the British Isles.”
