Applications invited for Energy from Waste ash disposal

​Deputy Kevin Lewis, Minister for Transport and Technical Services (TTS), has announced that he is seeking appropriate contractors to undertake the transport and the disposal of air pollution control residue (APCr) from the Energy from Waste Plant (EFW).

APCr is the waste that arises from flue gas treatment which traps the harmful elements that come from the burning of waste in the EFW. The export and disposal of APCr has been one of the main priorities for the TTS Minister since taking office.

 

The tender has been divided into two parts, allowing local companies to apply for the transportation element of the project. The disposal element of the contract will be limited to those companies registered with, and permitted by, the Environment Agency of England and Wales to receive and process APCr. There are no companies with a presence in Jersey able to do this at present.

 

The opportunity to tender for the transport of APCr to the outlet specified by TTS will be advertised in the Gazette in the Jersey Evening Post, and on the States of Jersey online procurement portal.

 

Local companies are being encouraged to tender as well as non-local, and there is opportunity for innovation in order to fulfil the needs of the project. A seminar for all companies tendering for this project will be held during the tender period in order to ensure all parties have a thorough understanding of the project and are able to identify any and all areas for participation.

Tender documents for this project will be available this week on the States procurement portal, and anyone interested will need to register on the site in order to access the documents.
