Jersey Marinas has launched an art competition among Jersey’s primary schools to find a winning design for the 2013 Barclays Jersey Boat Show flag.
The winning design will become the official flag for the three-day show, which takes place in and around St Helier Marina over the Bank Holiday weekend of Saturday 4 to Monday 6 May.
The winner will receive a prize voucher and will hoist their flag design at the opening ceremony on Saturday 4 May. In addition, the winner’s school or activity club will also receive a prize.
This is the third year that organisers of Jersey’s largest free maritime event have launched a children’s art competition. The 2012 winner was 10-year old Cleo Leather.
Group Commercial Director for Ports of Jersey, Myra Shacklady, says "The Barclays Jersey Boat Show is a real community event, appealing to all ages and this competition has proved a great way of involving local youngsters. The judging panel has always faced a difficult decision in selecting a winner as all the entries have been very impressive and I’m sure this year will be no exception."
The art competition is open to all Jersey primary school children up to and including the age of 11. The picture, which must have a maritime theme, should be drawn on A3 landscape paper, using paint, colour pens, pencils or crayons.
The closing date for entries is Monday 15 April 2013.
