The Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Roger Gifford, will visit Jersey tomorrow (6 September 2013). He will be accompanied by the Lady Mayoress, Dr Claire Gifford, and the Chairman of Policy and Resources for the City of London, Mark Boleat.
During his stay in the Island, the Lord Mayor will meet the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst; the Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache; and the Treasury Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf. He will also attend meetings with representatives of the finance industry.
Senator Gorst commented “As Capital Economics’ recently published report clearly shows, there is a strong, mutually beneficial relationship between Jersey and the City of London. The Lord Mayor’s visit will be an opportunity for him to see at first hand the workings of our finance industry and the contribution it makes to the economy of London and that of the United Kingdom as a whole.”
The Lord Mayor’s party will also visit the Jersey Archive, where they will view the Celtic coin hoard that was discovered in Jersey last year. An official dinner to welcome the Lord Mayor and guests will be hosted by the Deputy Bailiff, William Bailhache, at the Bailiff’s Chambers.
