Transport and Technical Services (TTS) has installed its latest stretch of vehicle barriers on Le Mont les Vaux, St Brelade.
In keeping with the road's rural setting, out of St Aubin and towards St Brelade's Bay, TTS has used wooden-clad barriers.
Although it is often difficult to provide safety structures which are both robust and aesthetically pleasing, TTS has been installing barriers that are both and in keeping with the landscape at several locations.
The wooden-clad steel barrier system, which comes from Normandy in France, looks like a round log post and rail fence. However, the wood is just cladding, encasing an engineered steel core.
Guarantee
The barrier system is approved by the UK Highways Agency for use on UK trunk roads, costs about the same as the traditional Armco-style barrier, and comes with a 20-year guarantee.
This kind of wooden-clad barrier was first used in Jersey on the hill leading to Bonne Nuit, and has minimised any impairment of the view of the bay below. It has also been used in Waterworks Valley and Beaumont.
The Minister for Transport and Technical Services, Deputy Kevin Lewis, said “I have had a lot of positive feedback about these new style vehicle barriers. We will continue to use them in rural and coastal locations when possible.”
