Careers Jersey given national accreditation

27 June 2014

Careers Jersey are celebrating after becoming the first organisation in the Channel Islands to be awarded a nationally-recognised quality mark for organisations delivering information, advice and guidance services.

The Matrix Standard measures the quality of services provided and is a key business improvement tool that was only awarded to Careers Jersey following a rigorous two-day audit.

Sue Harding, who assessed the service on behalf of the Matrix Standard, said “Careers Jersey demonstrated clear areas of strength during the Matrix assessment, and all stakeholders interviewed were very positive about the service and its impact whether to schools, to groups of students, undergraduates and clients, or to individuals.

"There was no shortage of evidence of how Careers Jersey works to the elements and criteria of the Matrix Standard, and how the strong communication, sense of purpose in what the service seeks to achieve, and working relationships across the team as a whole contributes to this.”

Staff commitment and dedication

Head of Lifelong Learning and Skills, Andy Gibbs, said “We are incredibly proud that Careers Jersey have received the Matrix Standard on their first submission. It recognises the commitment of Careers Jersey staff and the dedication they have to providing impartial and confidential careers advice and guidance to Islanders of all ages."

ESC Minister Deputy Patrick Ryan said “This is excellent news and a significant vote of confidence in the service Careers Jersey provide for the Island. I would like to congratulate the team for their continuing hard work throughout the difficult economic period when high quality careers advice has been vital for many. This award is an important achievement, especially as it is from an independent national body.”

Careers Jersey offer impartial advice and guidance free of charge to people of any age. Their aim is to empower people to acquire the skills and knowledge needed, not only to gain employment in a very competitive market place but to enhance and develop a current career path.
