Islanders are being urged to have their gas BBQs inspected for safety following a BBQ which spread to a St Brelade home yesterday (27 May 2014).
Jersey Fire and Rescue crews went to the St Brelade property after receiving a number of emergency calls from residents. They quickly brought the blaze under control before clearing the house of smoke.
Crew commander John Le Cornu said "The cause of the incident is still under investigation. With summer now here, it is crucial that all gas BBQ’s are well maintained and checked before use. Jersey Fire and Rescue would urge the public to ensure that their BBQ’s are inspected by a trained gas professional before use if they are in any doubt."
