The Acting Chief Minister, Senator Ian Le Marquand, has issued the following statement in response to the tragic events of the weekend:
"I was deeply saddened by news of two tragic deaths this weekend and I would like to extend my sincerest sympathy to the friends and relatives of those involved.
"The States of Jersey Police officers are now investigating both incidents, which are unrelated. I know a violent death will have shocked the Island’s community, as will the very sad death of a young man with his life ahead of him. Despite this, Jersey remains a very safe place and events of this nature are rare.
"I particularly want to thank the emergency services, paramedics and hospital staff for their work this weekend, as well as staff from the Children’s Service, Jersey Youth Service and Social Services who were available to support those who needed it.
"At the same time I want to reinforce the warning issued by Police and Health Agencies of the dangers of taking any unprescribed drug.
"On behalf of the Council of Ministers, our thoughts are with all those affected by this very sad weekend in our island."
