Approval for Esplanade office scheme

05 March 2014

Jersey’s Planning Minister, Deputy Rob Duhamel, has approved the development of a six-storey office scheme on the Esplanade.

Dandara Jersey Ltd applied to demolish 66-72 Esplanade, 60 Kensington Place and part of 14 Patriotic Street, and construct a new six-storey office development, incorporating ground-floor parking and retaining the listed facade of 14 Patriotic Street.

The new scheme will offer more than 17,000 square metres of high-quality, Grade A office space, which will comply with BREEAM ‘very good’ standards.

Deputy Duhamel considered the planning application at ministerial meetings on 6 December 2013 and 24 February 2014. He deferred the application at these meetings in order to further consider the design and to attend the site to view the potential development from neighbouring properties.

Development Control Director, Peter Le Gresley, said “The Minister carefully balanced the loss of the listed buildings with the provision of high-quality office accommodation and the impact on the neighbourhood.”

Planning approval has been given subject to the satisfactory completion of a Planning Obligation Agreement (POA) to secure improvements to the public footpath in front of the building.
