A former Royal Navy Captain, Phil Buckley, has been appointed as the new harbour master and the chief operating officer for the Ports of Jersey's marine operation. Mr Buckley's previous experience in the Royal Navy includes command of a seagoing nuclear submarine.
He will assume formal responsibility on 5 December 2014, taking over from the current post holder, Commodore Barry Goldman, CBE.
Originally from Cheshire, Mr Buckley spent 35 years in the Royal Navy, serving in the Falklands conflict, the Middle East and Europe. Prior to relocating to Jersey, he was the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) lead for governance, assurance and regulation of port operations in all three military ports.
Commodore Barry Goldman joined the Ports of Jersey on a fixed-term contract in July 2012 after a 36-year career in the Royal Navy and ten years as manager of the Port of London’s Vessel Traffic Services. He was appointed CBE in 2001.
