St Aubin petanque area opened

29 August 2014

A new public petanque area at St Aubin was opened today (29 August 2014) as part of the village improvement scheme which began earlier this year.

The facility, which is at the parish hall end of the Bulwarks, by Transport and Technical Services Minister, Deputy Kevin Lewis,  and St Brelade Connétable Steve Pallett and will be available for any members of the public to use at any time.

The St Aubin’s Project Board, a community steering group set up and chaired by Mr Pallett, which includes representatives from the business and resident communities, has been helping with the design of the village improvements that Transport and Technical Services has been carrying out.

Following a full community consultation a number of new facilities have already been provided in addition to the petanque area. These facilities are:

  • a children’s play area
  • an extended garden area
  • bus shelters
  • improved street lighting and improved lighting in the car park behind the parish Hall
  • high quality paving and a better layout for pedestrians and waiting bus passengers

Once the resurfacing of the road through the middle of the village has been completed two additional zebra crossings will be provided to make it more convenient for pedestrians to cross the road to and from the car park and parish hall.

Mr Pallett said “St Aubin is very much a village community and the addition of an area where people can enjoy a leisurely game of boules will add to the village atmosphere.”
