The President of Alderney, Mr W Stuart Trought, completed an official two-day visit to Jersey today (19 December). During his visit, he met the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, and other States Members. He also met the Bailiff, Sir Michael Birt, and the Lieutenant Governor, General Sir John McColl.
The visit is part of an ongoing programme of engagement between Jersey and its fellow Crown Dependencies. Opportunities for joint working between the Government of Jersey and the States of Alderney have been the focus of political discussions during Mr Trought’s visit. Specific areas of cooperation have been identified in the tourism and environment sectors.
Senator Gorst commented “Although Alderney is a smaller island than our own, with different demographics, there are nonetheless goals and objectives that we have in common. It is therefore important that we continue to maintain an open and cooperative dialogue between our two governments and seek to identify opportunities for joint working. We value our relationship with our fellow Channel Islands and I am pleased to have had the opportunity to welcome Mr Trought to Jersey.”
Mr Trought added “I was extremely pleased to accept the Chief Minister’s invitation on behalf of Alderney. It has been an ideal opportunity to strengthen the bonds of friendship that have always existed between the two islands, and to explore areas of mutual interest. The visit fits well with Alderney’s desire to promote and maintain beneficial relationships with its neighbours.”
