The demolition of the old incinerator chimney at Bellozanne has been completed.
Both the incinerator and chimney were retained in case there were teething problems with the energy from waste plant that replaced the old incinerator. However, it was never needed and the incinerator and chimney have not been used since operations ceased over Christmas 2010.
Raffertys, the contractor working on behalf of Transport and Technical Services, began demolishing the chimney in March this year. After removing all the inside floors, they took down the outside, section by section, from the top.
The final demolition of the old incinerator building should be completed in the next few weeks.
