Plans to improve Crabbé Site

Plans for a modern activity centre at Crabbé have been brought a step closer with a Ministerial decision which approves funding for the improvements.

 

The Queen’s Silver Jubilee Activity Base at Crabbé has served schools, youth groups and youth organisations for many years but is in need of work to bring it up to modern standards.

 

Jersey Youth Service, in partnership with Jersey Property Holdings, submitted a planning application for the project in September 2013, to replace the existing cabins and classroom with a single-storey chalet-style building on the St Mary site. It will accommodate 30 young people and six staff and will include a new classroom and kitchen as well as improved access for disabled users.

 

Following the tender process, a local construction company will be responsible for overseeing the project and will engage with the Back to Work team to make the most of any opportunities for Islanders looking for work.

 

Education, Sport and Culture have worked with the Treasury to bring forward the project, which will cost £926,000.

 

Education, Sport and Culture Minister Deputy Patrick Ryan said “Crabbé offers young people an opportunity to enjoy the natural environment – a valuable part of growing of up in Jersey. I am delighted that the plans have now been approved and that our children will have access to this new and improved facility.”

 

The Assistant Treasury Minister, Deputy Eddie Noel, commented “This scheme will play a part in ensuring our local facilities can meet the future needs of Jersey’s young people. The development will provide a further boost for the local construction industry, and I look forward to seeing the progress this year.”
