Mephedrone - Customs arrest three people

17 April 2014

Customs and Immigration Service officers have arrested three people in connection with the importation of a quantity of mephedrone, a new psychoactive substance which is now a Class B controlled drug. The arrests took place on Monday 14 April.

Officers recovered a number of ecstasy tablets and small amounts of cocaine and cannabis in subsequent house searches. Two people have been charged with various drug offences and a third has been released on bail pending further investigations.

Customs and Immigration assistant director with responsibility for border control, Paul Ecobichon said “The service is committed to preventing the importation of all controlled drugs, including new psychoactive substances, into the Island and will continue to work closely with the States of Jersey Police in this respect."

If people have any information about drug smuggling, they can call the Customs and Immigration Drugs Freephone on 0800 735 5555 and speak to an officer in complete confidence.
