More people have got on their bike as a result of the second annual Cycle Challenge Jersey.
Workplaces competed against each other to get as many people as possible to cycle for 10 minutes or more between Monday 2 and Sunday 22 June. The winning organisations received certificates and prizes at an awards ceremony on Thursday (26 June).
The initiative:
- encouraged nearly 100 people to cycle for the first time in more than a year
- resulted in participants clocking up 77,230 km
- saved 15.6 tonnes of CO2
- burned off more than 1.2 million calories, the equivalent of almost 5,000 Jersey ice creams and cycling around the world twice
Minister for Transport and Technical Services, Deputy Kevin Lewis, said “This is the second year the States of Jersey has run a Cycle Challenge event, and we are delighted to see that the number of new cyclists is on the rise and that seven new organisations registered. I was also very pleased to hear that TTS have once again won awards, which demonstrates the Department’s continual commitment to greener, more sustainable travel. Thank you to everyone who took part.”
