Seasonal advice to air passengers

16 December 2014

With as many as 16,000 arriving and departing air passengers expected during the five days leading to Christmas Eve, Jersey Airport has issued a reminder to travellers to pay special attention to what they are carrying in their hand luggage.

Any wrapped presents must be carried in checked-in hold luggage, while presents that are carried in hand luggage must remain unwrapped, as they can be subject to a physical examination.

Liquid items, including perfumes, pastes, gels, jams, preserves, dairy products and lotions, must either be carried in checked-in luggage or in containers of less than 100ml when packed in hand luggage. All liquid containers carried on to the plane must be placed in a single, clear re-sealable bag and presented at security search, where they will be subject to a testing process.

Passengers are also reminded that while Christmas crackers are not permitted in hand luggage, some airlines may accept them if they are stored in checked-in hold luggage. In this case, crackers are only permitted if they are factory produced, remain unopened in the box and are limited in quantity. No home-made crackers, party poppers or any other type of explosive device are allowed in the cabin or baggage hold of any airline.

General safety and security advice, including lists of items that carry restrictions, can be found on Jersey Airport's website. However, Jersey Airport strongly advises passengers with specific queries to contact their individual airline before travelling.
