Funding released for road safety projects

A programme of parish road safety projects around the Island has been brought forward following the approval of a funding transfer of £1,252,000 by the Treasury and Resources Minister.

 

The Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, has approved a 2014 request for a capital budget transfer of £1,252,000 from Treasury and Resources to Transport and Technical Services (TTS) for fiscal stimulus and parish projects.

 

This funding will allow TTS to bring forward the following planned road safety and parish village improvement schemes:

Senator Ozouf said “The provision of this funding not only supports an accelerated programme of road safety improvements in the parishes but will have the additional benefit of putting that funding into the local economy far earlier than had originally been planned. This is good news for the parishes involved, for the local contractors who will be doing the work, and is in line with the Fiscal Policy Panel’s recommendation to bring forward capital spending.

 

“Road safety is high on the public agenda and Transport and Technical Services are continually asked for road safety measures that will slow down traffic and improve areas for pedestrians.”

 

TTS Minister Deputy Kevin Lewis commented “I am delighted that this funding has been found for us and that the public can benefit from these improvements sooner than scheduled. Projects such as St Mary’s village will now be able to start this winter, a year earlier than originally anticipated.”
