The refurbishment of Pier Road multi storey car park starts next week (14 July) and will take approximately 16 weeks.
Improvements include:
- repairs and improvements to the concrete floors
- cleaning, inspection, repair and repainting of walls and stairwells
- increasing the size of some parking bays
- renewal of the electrical systems in the car park (lighting and CCTV)
- replacement of the external safety fence panels around the car park floors
The Transport and Technical Services Department (TTS) will carry out the work in stages. During the first four weeks, floors nine to 12 will be closed to the public.
The lifts and escalators will still operate to Fort Regent. The ramps on the upper floors will be closed and anyone who needs to use the ramps should contact TTS assistant engineer, Ross Fearnley, on 448371.
After that, work will continue downwards from floor eight, closing off one or two floors at a time.
During this time cars may have to leave from the top of the car park. Signs will give drivers clear information.
Based upon the number of cars currently using the car park, TTS think enough parking spaces will be available during the works to meet demand.
This project is being carried out as part of an ongoing public car park maintenance programme.
